Rational Expressions


To Simplify Rational Expressions, Factor Expressions and Then Cancel Common Factors

Adding and Subtracting Rational Expressions

Multiply Fractions By a "Factor or 1" To Obtain Common Denominators. Then combine fractions.

Note: If needed, you must factor expressions completely before obtaining common denominators.


Solving Equations Containing Rational Expressions

To solve equations containing rational expressions, remove fractions by multiplying all terms on both sides by the least common denominator.  Then solve the equation that contains no fractions.
